A new approach for leaders ready to change from the inside out
(4 minute read)– You’re smart. Driven. Self-aware. Maybe even well-coached.
But under pressure—when conflict arises or the stakes are high—your body tells a different story: tight shoulders, shallow breath, chronic pain. Sometimes, I even got a full shutdown, when I was in the middle of this. You may be asking: I know better… so why can’t I do better?
This is where standard teachings end—and where somatic coaching begins.
The Missing Link Isn’t in Your Head
Somatic coaching is grounded in the understanding that change doesn’t just happen in the mind—it happens in the nervous system.
You’ve probably tried logic, strategy, or “pushing through.” But those old patterns—people-pleasing, control, avoidance, reactivity, pushing through—aren’t just habits. They’re deeply wired survival responses your body learned a long time ago.
Until you shift the body’s response, those old loops will keep running the show.
Leadership Lives in the Body
Think about it:
Do you tense up when giving feedback?
Avoid hard conversations because your stomach flips?
Collapse into exhaustion after a long day of managing people?
Your body is speaking. Somatic coaching helps you listen, and use what you hear.
Once you learn to track sensation, breath, posture, and presence, you begin to lead not just with your thoughts—but with your full values set.
The Cost of Staying in Your Head
When leaders ignore the body, here’s what typically happens:
Burnout masquerades as productivity
Disconnection gets mislabeled as detachment
Micromanagement feels like leadership
Over-functioning replaces true collaboration
You know how this story goes. The only way to change the story is to change the author—which, in this case, is the automatic pattern living in your body.
A Somatic Framework that Works: The CLIP Process
In my work with executives and business owners, I use a four-part system called CLIP:
Clarity through inventory – Identify how your body responds to stress and power
Liberation from old stories – Release outdated survival patterns
Inspired accountability – Align your goals with what your body actually wants
Partner in growth – Activate sustainable support through coaching, community, or tools
This isn’t about fixing you. It’s about freeing you.
